"Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know."
- Pema Chodron
From a young age, I have been fascinated by people and our connections with each other, perhaps as a way to find the belonging that sometimes escaped me. My first experience in therapy ignited a passion to share that same compassion and validation with others who might feel alone and in pain, and I began studying social work soon afterwards. Throughout my career, my curiosity has only grown as I gratefully learn from each individual and group I meet with. I believe it's important to look closely and kindly at dynamics that might be hidden by our human defences, to see the parts of ourselves and others that need healing. I've come to believe we all want the same thing: to be seen, understood, and to connect. The behaviours on the surface might not show that need, but if you look deeply enough, it's there.
My goal as a counsellor and consultant is for the people I meet with to leave feeling even a little bit more compassionate with themselves and those around them, and with a sense of clarity about their hopes, wishes. and their potential. For couples and other relationships, this means holding space for multiple "truths", helping build the skills of vulnerability, empathy, and repair.
People describe me as kind, encouraging, and direct. I don't shy away from the hard topics, and I may gently invite you to look at patterns that could be getting in the way of your goals, but I will always treat you with respect and honour your boundaries.
When I'm not at work, I can often be found outdoors in all kinds of weather with my wild and wonderful family (which includes three dogs, two grand-dogs, two cats, and several humans) who I love fiercely. I am rejuvenated by nature and by adventure. I will tell you about my remote canoe, fatbike, or snowshoe trips sometime if you ask. I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful corner of the world.
